N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING PLAY FOR KEAN AND TEAGLE SHIELDS (New Zealand Press Association) MASTERTON. August ». Table tennis players from many parte of New Zealand commenced matches In Masterton at the New Zealand championship meeting. Inter-association matches were begun to-day and will be completed to-morrow. Twelve teams have entered in the men's contests, and 11 in tbs women's. Singles and doubles are being played. The following associations are represented at the championships:—Auckland, Bush. Bay ot Plenty, Canterbury, Hawke's Bay, Hutt Valley, Manawatu. Marlborough, Northland, North Taranaki, Otago, Rotorua, South Canterbury, South Taranaki, Wellington, Wanganui, Wsirarape, and Waikato. Men's teams are playing for the Kean Shield, and women’s teams for theTeails Shield. A major upset this evening was the defeat of the present national women's champion. Miss M. Hoare, by the promising young Canterbury player. Miss J. Williamson, the score being 21-12. 18-21, 21-6. M. Dunn, a 15-year-old player, beat F. Paton, former national title-holder and one of the New Zealand ranked players. Results were:—
