“VOLUNTEERS" IN KOREA
REPORTED SUPPORT FOR COMMUNISTS (Rec. f 1,30 p.m.) TOKYO, August 27. About 2000 Caucasian troops are reported to have entered Korea to fight with the Communists if the collapse of the truce talks signals ah all-out renewal of the war. Caucasian —possiblv Russian—anti-aircraft batteties are flow stationed in Nbrth Korea on both the east and west coasts.
Reports say that a unit of 2000 Caucasians is somewhere along the main West Korean road between Pyongyang and Kaesong, within easy distance of the battlefront.
It was earlier repotted that a new "volunteer" force of European Communist soldiers Was encamned north of the Yalu river, awaiting the appropriate time for a move into Korea. Military observers in Japan and Korea refuse to speculate on the nationalities of the meh in the new unit.
There are no reports Of the Caucasians having been in action against United Nations ground troops, but United Nations airmen are convinced that fihti-airctaft batteries on the North Korean coasts below the Manchurian border are manned by experienced gunners, in addition, tank units are reported to be under camouflage hear Pyongyang.
