FUEL SHORTAGE IN EAST
PLANES FOR N.Z. TO FLY THROUGH U.S.
(Rec. 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 25. The fuel shortage caused by the Persian oil crisis has caused ferry crews delivering aircraft from Britain to Australia and New Zealand to fly via Central America. At some bases on the regular route it is doubtful whether supplies of high octane fuel will last for more than a month, even though they are being conserved tor regular schedules by the main companies. The first aircraft to fly to the South Pacific via Central America will be a T.E.A.L. Solent, required for the new service to connect Sydney with Tahiti. The plahe will cross the Atlantic, go down the east coast of America to Mexico, cross to the west coast, and leave San Francisco for Honolulu.
