BIRTHDAY OF THE QUEEN
QUIET CELEBRATIONS AT BALMORAL
(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON,- August 4. Her Majesty the Queen spent her fifty-first birthday quietly to-day with the King at Balmoral.
Princess Elizabeth and Prince Charles arrived at Balmoral to-day, but Princes Margaret and the Duke of Edinburgh remained in the south for other engagements. Thousands of cablegrams and other messages from all parts of the world have arrived in the last few days. The Queen spent part of her birthday reading them. In London, the Royal Horse Artillery fired a 41-gun salute in Hyde Park, and at the Tower of London the Honourable Artillery Company fired a 62-gun salute.
