TROTTING A. J.MOTZ WORKING BIG TEAM

SURE CATCH READY FOR EARLY ’ RACING The Prebbleton trainer, A. J. Motz, will have a large team racing early in the new season. Sure Catch, which raced well without winning in the North Island, is in strong work and he may not be long showing form. During the current season he had 19 starts for three wins and six placing*. He was not reliable in some of his races, but he showed that he had a useful turn of speed and could handle any form of going. Motz should have little difficulty placing him to advantage Nebula, Green Valley, Attachment, and Hillsborough have also rejoined the team. Nebula has made a good recovery from the injury she suffered in the North Island and she should do well in the next few months, as she generally does best when fresh. In 14 starts this season she had two wins and four placings, while throughout her career she has had 10 wins and nine placings for £5510 in stakes. She is on a difficult mark now, but she should continue to pay her way for Mr W. E. Desmond, particularly over the shorter distances.

Green Valley and Attachment should do well around the minor meetings. Both have been winners and they should prove more than useful. Hillsborough has been a disappointment since brought from the North Island, where a high opinion was held of him. He has made a good recovery from the injury he received on a trip to Auckland and he looks in splendid order for another preparation. If he can be induced to race solidly he should be a good winner. Motz is also educating a rising three-year-old filly by Gold Bar from Marie Celeste, the dam of a good winner in Seacraft. First Lass, which has been unplaced in two starts to date, is also in work. She is a rising four-year-old mare by Red Shadow from Sterling Fund, a member of the famous Misfortune family. Good Record

The Mangere trainer, J. Elliott, has compiled an outstanding record with straightout trotters In the last seven months. He produced Nacirem*. Frank Belwin, and Unique Wonder to win seven races from IB starts, and all three should do good service for him early this season. Naclrema, which won three times from nine starts, was raced as a pacer early in her career. She Is an aged mare by Indianapolis from One Way. by Peterwah. One Way was also the dam of Indian Gold. Frank Belwin won twice from four starts. He is a five-year-old gelding by Worthy Belwin from Bessie Bingen, by Nelson Bingen from the imported mare. Berthabell. founder of a great winning family. Bessie Bingen was also the dam of other good winners at the trotting gait in Bessie Parrish (3min IBsec). Lady Bunker (the dam of Maxee), Not Quite, and Belmoral. Frank Belwin is bred to go a long way and he should make rapid progress this season. Unique Wonder created a good impression when she won twice from five starts. She is a six-year-old mare by Quite Sure from Mah Jong, a good winner as a trotter. by Maxegin from Katute, the dam also of Muraahi, Red Ace. and Oban. Unique Wonder Is also expected to prove more than useful in the coming season, and. with’ Nacirem* and Frank Belwin, she should form the nucleus of a strong team for Elliott, who also trains Bell Air, a winner as a pacer.
