THE EXHIBITION CONTROVERSY

Sir, —May I ask, through your columns, just when did Christchurch become a dependency of Auckland? The way in which Auckland has tried to push us around over the exhibition prompts me to remind its Mayor and citizens that this display of Yankee push and efficiency is highly amusing when it is remembered that South Island capital keeps both Auckland and Wellington on the map. In its dealings with Auckland, Christchurch should drop its traditional style of leisurely courtesy and let Auckland know just where it gets off. In dealing with Auckland our motto should be, “Remember the Empire Games!” —Yours, etc., ' , SOUTH ISLANDER. July 18. 1951.
