AGRICULTURAL COLLEGES
annual conferences ADVOCATED report of University COMMITTEE "The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, July 17. The committee appointed by the New Zealand University Senate to investigate the relationship of the agricultural colleges to each other and to the University of New Zealand has recommended the repeal of the School of Agriculture Act. 1937, and the holding of annual conferences of the colleges to obtain co-ordination and to provide discussion on matters of common interest. The appointment of the committee followed a recommendation to the senate that the School of Agriculture be abolished. Its report was received by the Auckland University College Council yesterday and will be discussed by the senate next month. The committee considers that Massey Agricultural College and Canterbury Agricultural College should convene the conference alternately. The conferences should consist of three representatives of the board of governors, the academic head, and two representatives of the academic staff each . college. The Chancellor of the University of New Zealand or a person nominated by him should be chairman. A similar conference of representatives of the professorial boards is also proposed. The committee recommends interchange of teaching staffs between the two colleges, Government grants to be paid direct to each college, and that the governing body of each college appoint a member of the senate. The report was referred to the education committee.
