NEW CHAIRMAN ELECTED VERY REV. R. S. WATSON, OF DUNEDIN The Very Rev. R. S. Watson, of Dunedin, has been elected chairman of
:he National Council of Churches of
New Zealand. He succeeds the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. A. K. Warren). The appointment was made before the annual meeting of the council closed in Christchurch yesterday. Mr Watson, who is a former mod* erator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, is at present minister in charge of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Dunedin. In World War I he served as a chaplain overseas, and was awarded the Military Cross. Mr Watson has been assistant minister at First Church. Dunedin, and minister at Devonport, Khandallah, and Ashburton.
The Rev. H. L. Fiebig, of Christchurch. was elected vice-chairman of the council. Mr L. G. K. Steven, of Christchurch, treasurer, and the followint all of Christchurch, were appointed to the executive: the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. A. ,K. Warren), and the Revs. M. G. Sullivan, J. Baird. L. F. Gunn, and L. J. Boulton Smith.
