INQUESTS OPENED
PASSENGERS IN CAR HIT BY TRAIN Inquests into the deaths of Maurice Barry James, aged 47, a solicitor, of Sewell street, Hokitika; Oswald Hi wat, aged 29, a company secretary, of Hampden street, Hokitika; and Charles George McKechnie, aged 66, a retired hotelkeeper, of 7da street, Greymouth, were opened yesterday afternoon in Christchurch before the Coroner (Mr Raymond Ferner). The three men were killed when th : car in which they were travelling was hit by the Picton-Christchurch express train at the Fendalton crossing early on Monday evening. The inquests were adjourned until July 20, after evidence of identification had been given. j
