OFFICIAL FORECASTS “The Press’’ Special Service WELLINGTON. July 4. The weather forecast lor Canteibury j sued at 9 pm. by the Meteorological Cffice. Wellington, and dealing with th* 27 hours after the time of issue, is:— Situation: a trough of low pressure is over New Zealand. Forecast: northerly winds, fresh on the coasts, mainly moderate, el ewhere; weather mainly fair, apart from showers in the alps to-night: temperatures higher than of late. Outlook: fair to fine. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast is as follows: — Moderate to fresh northerly winds turning westerly during the afternoon: weather mostly cJouily. with occasional showers: cool temperatures. Outlook: cloudy, with showers CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER After a frost of 4 degrees, the day in Ch btchurch yesterday was overcast, with a strong easterly wind. The maximum temperature was 49.9 degrees. At midnight, the sky W'as partly overcast, and a fresh north-east wind was blowing. The temperature was 49.8 degrees, and the barometer, at 29.720 inches (1C06.4 millibars), was falling unsteadily.
