HUNTLY MINERS MEET

STRIKE DECISION AFFIRMED

(New Zealand Press Association) Auckland, May 2. Three to four hundred strikin'* Underground miners called to a meeting in Huntly to-day by the Waikato Miners’ Central Executive, reaffirmed their decision to stay out of the mines Until the Government lifts the emergency regulations. They voted after hearing a report from Messrs G. Lawson and H. Peden, their delegates to the United Mineworkers’ Council. Resolutions protesting to the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) at the establishment of a civil emergency organisation and calling upon the national miners’ council to elect a president and a secretary from the existing six national councillors, were also passed. A member of the Waikato executive reported that the organisation knew nothing about the attempt to blow up a bridge near Huntly, and he appealed to all miners to refrain from provocative acts. The secretary (Mr D. Stewart) said the meeting contended that the president of tne miners' council (Mr A. Prendiville) and the secretary (Mr F. Crook) had walked out of the Organisation.
