LOCAL BODY SERVICE
CITY COUNCIL APPROVES PAYMENT On the voices, the Christchurch City Council last evening decided to support an Invercargill proposal to the Government that all members cf local bodies should be paid £1 a meeting attended, with a maximum payment in any one year of £52. Moving that support be given the Invercargill proposal, Cr. J. E. Jones said the Labour Party had over a long period advocated payment to local body member' “Members should be remunerated for loss of time,” said Cr. Charles Baldwin, who seconded the mot'on. If the Government agreed to the legislation, more persons would stand for local body work. They would know that they would be remunerated for loss of time. No division was called for.
