RECORD ABATTOIR KILLINGS

WELLINGTON MEN PRAISED

The previous monthly record of 8112 cattle killed, in April, 1943, is beaten by 250. “The new record reflects great credit on the men employed at the abattoirs,” said the Mayor and chairman of the Wellington Emergency Supplies Committee (Mr R. L. Macalieter).

To-morrow, 610 servicemen will work 10 ships—the Arawa, Tamaroa, Stanpark, Stonegate, Calm, Koromiko, Matnaku; Aspasia, Nomikos, Glenlyon, and Konui. The Port Line announced to-day that the Port Brisbane, which left London for Wellington on April 2 and was due next Wednesday, had been ordered to reduce speed from 17 to 14 knots, because there was no point in her reaching Wellington earlier. -
