SUMNER GAS CHARGES

The waiving of the minimum and service charges for ga*s from the Sumner gasworks during April was approved by the City Council last evening. The grounds were that reduced hours could necessitate a gas consumption below the minimum and a service charge was not altogether applicable when gas was not always available. The works comrtrittee reported that the reduction in hours of normal pressure resulted in inconvenience, but generally the attitude of consumers had been realistic and fair.

Replying to Cr. T. H. McCombs, M.P.. the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.). said a check would be made the following day as to whether the Sumner gasworks was getting a supply of coal. If none had been supplied, steps would be taken by the emergency committee to make an allocation.
