CUSTOMS RETURNS
INCREASE SHOWN IN CHRISTCHURCH There was a substantial increase in the amount of revenue collected by the Customs Department, Christchurch, in April, compared with April, 1950-51. Last month £448,515 was collected, compared with £385,272 for the corresponding month last year. The figures for April, 1951-52, with the figures for April, 1950-51 in parenthesis, are as followscustoms and excise, £288,326 (£239,733); petrol, <31,058 (£32,364); tyres. £36Q (£255); sales tax. £127,995 (£89,629); light dues, £358 (£526); export levy, hides, (£2715): miscellaneous, £420 (£50); totals, £448,515 (£365,272). AUCKLAND Revenue collected by the Customs Department, Auckland, during April, totalled £947.840, against £742,467 in April, 1960. Details are:—customs, £563 364 (£416,288)■ petrol tax, £118,610 (£93,792); tyre duty. £l9 (£641); sales tax, £265.847 (£231.748).
