WORLD RECORD MAKO SHARK
WOMAN ANGLER’S CATCH
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. April 15. A mako shark weighing 8581 b, a world record catch for a woman angler, was landed by Mrs Ernest Beaver, of Whangaro, yesterday. Mrs Beaver, who is 54. had only been out in a launch big-game fishing twice before, and the record fish was her first strike.
Although not a spectacular fighter, the shark made several 'arge leaps out of the water in its efforts to break free. It was finally brought alongside the launch by Mrs Beaver after four hours. After being secured with a rone it was towed back to Whangaro. Mrs Beaver complied with all the conditions laid down by the International Game Fish Association and the Natural History Museum in New York in making her catch. A woman’s world record will he claimed for her. The present women’s record for a mako shark is 6471 b and the men's record is 10001 b.
