PROSPECTS AT METHVEN

CORRECTION MAY WIN AGAIN FINANCIAL IN FORM FOR PRESIDENT’S " Four horses engaged in the Lyndhurst Handicap No. 1 at the Metnven Trotting Club’s autumn meeting at the Mount Harding racecourse to-day have recent winning form to their credit. They are Correction, Lady Brigade, Super Note, and Sylvette. Correction came into her own at the Greymouth meeting on March 26, when she easily beat Bonus after appearing to be well out of her ground with six furlongs to run. This half-sister to Morning Wings seems to have plenty of ability, and she should prove a good stake-earner for her owner, Mr S. T. Webster, and her Hornby trainer, J, B. Pringle. Lady Brigade has not been extensively raced, but she has shown a lot of promise. She was nbt troubled to win the Tradesmen’s Handicap at the Roxburgh meeting at Easter after breaking at the start. A four-year-old mare by Light Brigade, she is trained at Waikouaiti by R. J. Jones. Super Note gave a solid exhibition of trotting at Rangiora last week when he won the Domett Handicap. He was unlucky in the Southbrook Handicap later in the day, and if he had received a mire favourable run he would have finished closer than fifth. Sylvette beat Kiskeam and Double Sure in convincing style in the Ferry Handicap at Wyndham on March 17, but she broke in her race later in the day. She is another young trotter with a good action, and with more experience she should develop* useful form. Indomitable showed great promise as a three-year-old, and he is to have his first start as a four-year-old today. He may need a race or two before the best is seen of him, but if be is anywhere near his best he should have a good chance. If there is to be a surprise, Beau Scott may be the one to cause it. He was most impressive at Addington on Thursday, and looks a likely improver. The others do not make much appeal. M. Holmes’s Team M. Holmes, who has also Tactics and Prince Charming engaged at the meeting, appears to hold a strong hand in the President's Handicap with the former Southland mare, Financial. Croughton,- a disappointing runner at Rangiora last week, is expected to show improvement and he may be the hardest for Financial to beat. Diamed, Colleague, Monty Jeaon. and Bonny Brogue make most appeal of the others. Greenwich is expected te win again in the Spaxton.Handicap. He W M having only his second race this season when he beat a good field of maiden horsea at New Brighton on March 17, and he is reported to have made good progress since then. Tactics showed great speed in her race at Timaru last month, and she is expect'd to extend Greenwich, "cott Junior, Direct Link. Supreme Globe and Lady Rowan should al-o show up. A number of horses In the Lauriston Handicap ate also engaged in the Spaxton Handicap, and form in the earlier race may provide a reliable guide here. If Grerowich fa'ls to win at his first attempt he should make ament’s ere He will be bracketed with Josephine, which showed useft’l form on the Blen-heim-Nelson circuit recently, Prince Charming and the White Angel-Trueleen bracket should also take part in the finish. ’ , . Velvet Brown, an unlucky runner in the North Canterbury Racing Club Handiem at Rangiora last week, is expected to make amend? in the Richards Memorial. Isa lei finished third at Rangiora after making all the pace, and she should show tmnrovement. Treviso. Knightmare, the First Charge-Harvest Tide bracket, and King High are likely to race prominently. , » i, Keretakt has been scratched from all engagement* at th* meeting, whi'e Idealist has been withdrawn from the Lyndhvrst FancUcap No. 2.
