Electrical generation by steam power is mainly based upon extensive work of vast brown coal deposits by open-cut methods, with a total constructed capacity of 538,000 k.w. and a further 21,500 k.w. under construction. Several hydro-electric stations are operating, totalling 49,000 k.w., and a further 300.000 k.w. are under construction. At the same time, the Commission’s existing factories now produce an average of 600.000 tons of briquettes per annum, with factories to produce a further 23 million tons per annum under construction. The Commission’s activities cover the whole range of civil engineering work and afford excellent opportunities of employment in most interesting and responsible work. Vacancies exist in the Civil Engineering Branch, Melbourne, Design and Construction Department, for: DESIGN ENGINEERS (CIVIL):. Salary range. £1265-£1621 per annum. ENGINEERS (CIVIL): Grade 5, salary range £U6I-£1252 per annum; Grade 4, £lO7O- - Grade 3. £965-£1057; Grade 2, £874-£952; Grade 1, up to £B6l. In addition. appointees will receive reimbursement of up to £3O in the case of Victorian applicants, and £lOO in the case of inter-state applicants, on account of transfer of furniture and effects: this reimbursement will be made at the date of actual removal of the furniture or on completion of six months' satisfactory service, whichever is the later.
