Electrical generation by steam power is mainly based upon extensive work of vast brown coal deposits by open-cut methods, with a total constructed capacity of 538,000 k.w. and a further 21,500 k.w. under construction. Several hydro-electric stations are operating, totalling 49,000 k.w., and a further 300.000 k.w. are under construction. At the same time, the Commission’s existing factories now produce an average of 600.000 tons of briquettes per annum, with factories to produce a further 23 million tons per annum under construction. The Commission’s activities cover the whole range of civil engineering work and afford excellent opportunities of employment in most interesting and responsible work.
