CIVIL CASE HEARD IN CHATHAM ISLANDS
CLAIM FOR £5OO DAMAGES (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 13. The Chatham Islands Magistrate’s Court was packed to capacity recently to hear the largest civil claim ever brought before the Court there. Damagesi totalling £5OO were claimed by G. Weisner, a fisherman, for alleged trespass of stock, causing damage to fencing and loss of grazing. The defendants were Barkers, Ltd., owners of the Kaingaroa Station, one of the properties on the islands. The Resident Commissioner on the islands (Mr G Nevill, S.M.), found for defendants. Mr J. R. L. Campbell, a solicitor, of Christchurch, flew to the islands to act for the defendants. Weisner conducted his own case.
