SHIPS WORKED AT LYTTELTON
29 SERVICE GANGS ENGAGED
Servicemen worked late on the Gale and the Port Halifax on Wednesday evening to enable them to sail. The Gale sailed for Wellington with flour and 665 bags and hampers of mail. The Kaimanawa, which arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning from Bluff, is loading 2000 tons of flour for Auckland. She is expected to sail this evening for Wellington. The Calm yesterday discharged general cargo from Wellington, including a fairly large consignment of tobacco. Twenty-nine gangs of servicemen were employed on the waterfront yesterday. The Hinemoa arrived at Lyttelton at 6 p.m. yesterday from Wellington. She brought 530 passengers and 700 bags and hampers of mail. She is to sail this morning on the arrival of the 7.35 a.m. steamer train from Christchurch.
