TRANSPORT OF SUPPLIES
Coastal Shipping Service NAVAL CREWS FOR 21 VESSELS (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 12. Twenty-one coastal ships are to transport essential supplies among Dominion ports. The ships will be manned by naval crews. The chairman of the Wellington emergency supplies committee (Mr R. L. Macalister) said to-day that a schedule of projected trips had been prepared. The committee would control the allocation of cargoes for the ships. “Requests from merchants and shippers will be dealt with in a way ensuring tfiat the fullest possible use is made of the ships,” said Mr Macalister. Immediate movements include the Kaimanawa for Wellington with general cargo from Bluff, the Kanna loading at Wellington for Dunedin and Bluff, the Rata taking coal from Greymouth to Wellington, and the Mamuku unloading apples from Nelson at Wellington. The Paroto will leave Wellington to-morrow with 110 tons of general cargo for Motueka. returning to Wellington with tobacco leaf. The Wakanui is to operate a shuttle service between Wellington and Nelson, starting to-morrow. At Wellington to-morrow 465 servicemen will work 11 ships—the Kennerleya, Delphic, Arawa, Gale, Rangitoto, Mamuku, Aspasia Nomikos, Glenlyon, Kaiapoi, Ambassador, and Talisman.
