BROADCASTING OF RACE RESULTS

Sir, —I thoroughly agree with the remarks of “J.H.” in Wednesday’s issue of “The Press.” To my mind the broadcasting of betting is going to cause much trouble for someone in the future. One cannot expect to eradicate the gambling instinct, which seems inherent in mankind, but at least one need not foster it as is being done at the present time. Broadcasting of race results and off-course betting are questions which the welfare societies should be interesting themselves in, as they are of vital importance to the young generation; the older have gained a little wisdom.—Yours etc., L. GERALD. April 12. 1951.
