STOCK TAKEN TO ROYAL SHOWS
TRANSPORT SURSIDY TO BE DISCUSSED Subsidies for the transport of stock for more than 200 miles to Royal shows will be a question raised at the next meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand by the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association. A remit had already gone forward about both rail and road transport, said Mr G. N. Francis at a meeting of the Canterbury association’s general committee yesterday. It was now learned that not all of the £5OO subsidy allowed had been paid out for the Royal show in Christchurch last November. The question arose whether any costs above £5OO in other cases were to be carried by the Royal society or the association holding the Royal show. Mr R. S. Gunn (the association’s representative on the Royal society) said he thought the society would meet the full bill.
The £5OO was granted to the Royal society by the Government to assist in taking first-class stock to the Royal show wherever it might be, said Mr C. H. Bethell. He did not think district associations would be called to carry any excess cost. It was decided to seek clarification of the situation.
