School Pupils* Tram Faros The Canterbury School -Committees' Association will invite the chairman and general manager of the Christchurch Tramway Board to discus* the increase in tram fares for school pupils, Mr H. Hamilton (Shirley Intermediate) said at a meeting of the association last evening that the increases should not have been applied to children. In the Shirley-Richmond area, one fare had increased by 50 per cent. This scarcely squared with the claim that a 15 per cent, increase in wages had to be met. Secondary school pupils would feel the pinch even more. Mr C. D. W. I* Sheppard suggested that the board should be invited to state its case before any protest was made. Memorial to N.Z. Airmen The Minister of Island Territories (Mr F. Doidge) announced yesterday that the Tokelau Administration proposes to erect a memorial to the seven New Zealand airmen who lost their lives in a Catalina flying-boat accident in Western Samoa last December: At the time of the accident the seven men were on a service flight to the Tokelau Islands. South Island Roads West Coast motorists are to approach the Minister of Transport (Mr W. S. Goosman) expressing concern about the state of highways generally and to ask that he outline his policy about the upkeep of highways, with particular reference to Westland.
