WOOL BOARD BURSARY
TWO YEARS’STUDY AT LEEDS UNIVERSITY
The New Zealand Wool Board has awarded to Mr D. A. Ross, M.Agr.Sc., a bursary which will enable him to carry out at the University of Leeds a further two years’ study of his special subjects of wool science and animal genetics. Mr Ross, who is 24, gained his master’s degree at Massey College, with first-class honours, specialising in the application of statistical techniques to the study of wool fibre types. At Leeds University, where he will work under the world-famous wool textile expert, Professor J. B. Speakman, he will continue his work on the dimensional details of fibre types, with the object of gaining a doctorate of philosophy. Besides his academic qualifications, Mr Ross has a practical background of work on sheep farms and in wool stores. He took a prominent part in student activities at Massey College. Under the terms of his bursary he is required to return to New Zealand after two years, so that the benefit of his widened knowledge and experience will be available to the wool industry here.
