BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ONE RECORD BROKEN Only one record was broken at the annual athletic sports of the Christchurch Boys’ High School yesterday. E. M. Gilmour beat the record for the javelin throw of 156 ft 2Jin by 41n. The track was very heavy after the recent rain, but some excellent times were made. NEW DISTANCE SET AT SCHOOL SPORTS From Our Own Reporter TIMARU, April 11. M. Watson, holder of two New Zealand junior athletic titles, broke the national junior hop, step, and jump record at the Waimate High School sports yesterday with a jump of 45ft Bin. Watson, who is the present title-holder for the event, broke the record of 45ft sjln, sot by W. B. K. Haugh, of Auckland, In 1947, Watson, who is aged 17, also holds the New Zealand junior javelin title. Yesterday he also broke the high school’s broad jump, high jump, hop, step, and jump, and snot put records. He still has another year of New Zealand junior competition ahead of him.
