Appropriate Name
History shows that the Takapuna public school has lived up to its own motto. A brochure published for the school’s diamond jubilee says that in 1879, on two acres of land which cost £5O. a school was built for £485. It was called Lake School. Later it was enlarged but development in the district took place some distance away. The difficulty was met in a forthright manner. The school was shifted to a more central position and, in 1908, its name was changed from “Lake” to "Takapuna.’’ The school motto is “Deeds, Not Words."—(P.Sß.)
