ADDINGTON MARKET

GOOD DEMAND FOR EWES PLAIN STORE LAMBS CHEAPER . Store lambs were cheaper at the Addington store stock sale yesterday, but two-tooth ewes and old ewes sold well. The entry included 10,584 lambs, 1040 two-tooth awes, 6519 old ewes, and Ml wethers, a total of .19,124. against 30.963 last w®«k. ~ A lew good lots were included among the lambs, but the bulk of the offering was of medium sorts, with a liberal showing of inferior and cull lines. The sale began very badly, with prices well below last week, hut later it brightened to some extent. Prices for the best of the lambs were not greatly different from those of last week, though they were a shilling or two lower, but for medium and inferior lota, except where they were even, well-bred, and carrying good wool, the demand was very slack, and prices were doWh by -5s to 7s a head. A small gallery watched the sale. The top price for ewe lambs was 109 s, for a line of 80 from D. E. Woodill (Akaroe), end the . estate of T. E. Feather (Te Oka) sold 84 at 105 s. Medium ewes lambs made from 55s to 745. Best wether lambs made to 775, which was paid for 88 from the Fernieburst Station. Medium to good wether lambs mgde 58s to 60s and Inferior and cull lots from 38s to 50s.

The two-tooth offering contained a good number of lines of useful quality, and several lots of very good sheep. The market was most erratic. Good ewes had a sound demand at full late rates, but medium and inferior were slow of sale. Some lots were passed, but those that found buyers were sold at prices little different from those of recent sales. The best of the offering made to £8 17s 6d, at which price a pen of 70 Romneys from the estate of T. E. Feather changed hands. Second price was £8 15s for another lot from the same vendor. Medium to good two-tooths made from £6 5s to £7 ss, and ordinary and inferior from £4 7s 6d to £5 15s.

Very few really good lots were included among the old ewes. Much of the yarding was made up of sheep from Otago which were of useful quality, but not outstanding. The remainder were the normal collection of broken and fallingmouthed ewes. For good sheep there was a consistently good demand at full late rates, and medium to good sheep sold quite as well as they have at recent sales, inferior sorts were more difficult to sell, and were particularly difficult if they were not carrying sufficient condition to recommend them to freezing buyers. Considerable Interest was taken in the Romney ewes from the estate of T. E. Feather. They were excellent sheep, and competition for them was strong. The tops of the foup-tooths made £8 2s 6d, the I’x-fooths to £B, and the full-mouths to £5 15s. The best price for finewoolled aged ewes was £5 12s 6d for a line of Oamaru halfbreds. Medium to good four-year ewes made 83s to 99s 6d, and ordinary from 64s to 82s. Good s.m. made 77s 6d to 104 s, medium 70s to 765. and Inferior and cull down to 365.

BURNSIDE (New Zealand Press Association) t ■ DUNEDIN, April 11. The feature of the Burnside sale was the extreme values secured for fat stock, more particularly for fat sheep, lambs, and pigs. About 2400 fat sheep were offered, Including a number of pens of good quality wethers and ewes. Tney realised prices that were a record for the Burnside sale. No doubt this was helped to some extent by next week being a double market, butchers being anxious to secure a little extra stock in the event of numbers hot being sufficient next week The entry of fat cattle, 350 head, was made up mostly of average descriptions with a few pens of extra class cattle. The sale throughout was a keen one, and the drop last week was fully made up. Store cattle, which were also tn fair numbers, met with a good demand. In the fat lambs section, 750 head were offered. Although there were a few consignments of good-class lambs to hand, the bulk of the yarding comprised average and medium descriptions. All classes were keenly sought after and latteners were also present to secure anything which was unfit for the trade or export purposes. Baconers and porkers were forward in fair numbers, and met with one of the keenest sales for many years. Because of shipping difficulties, consignments are not coming forwau-d from the North Island, and buyers were bidding freely to secure anything like their necessary requirements. » Generally the sale was one of the keenest seen in Burnside for some time for all classes of stock, probably being the highest on record. „Fat Cattle.—Best quality bullocks to £4O 7s 6d; prime £36 12s 6d to £4O 7s M, medium £2B 17s 6d to £3O 17s 6d, light from £24 12s 6d: extra quality heifers, to £35; prime, £23 17s 6d to £29 7s 6d, medium £l7 2s 6d to £l9 17s 6d. light from £l5 2s 6d; extra quality cows to £2B 12s 6d, prime £l7 17s 6d to £2O 2s «d, medium £l3 17s 6d to £l5 17s 6d. light from £lO 12s 6d.
