LAND SETTLEMENT
Sir,—l have followed the correspondence about land settlement with interest. The present Government is not to blame fpr the situation. Let u« get down to the crux of the matter. How many farms have been branded by the State Advances Department valuers as “uneconomic”? How many of these farms have since been taken over by practical farmers and been proved to be sound financial propositions? Who is to blame? The employees of the State Advances Department, of course, not the Government. The Government should long ago have put practical farmers on to the job of valuing and advising former servicemen. My advice to any former serviceman wishing to obtain a farm is that he should seek financial assistance from a stock firm when possible and keep out of the clutches of the State Advances Department at any price.—Yours, etc., ONE WHO KNOWS. April 10, 1051.
