Export of rubber from Malaya and Singapore to all places, except the United Kingdom, sterling Dominions, Canada, Eire, and the United States will be by licence only after to-day. In the Federation open general licences for rubber exports will be withdrawn and all rubber exports will come under control. The quantity sent to various destinations will be kept under continuous supervision. Official figures released yesterday showed that Communist China received 19,407 tons of Malayan rubber in the first three months of 1951. This compared with 38.568 tons for the whole of the year 1950. Hong Kong took 25.973 tons for the 1951 quarter, compared with 44,367 tons for the whole of 1950. A high percentage of rubber exported to Hong Kong is known to be re-exported to Communist China.
