HEAVY DEMAND FOR POWER
APPEALS FOR REDUCTION BROADCAST The peak demand of 169 900 k.w. at 1.30 p.m. on Monday for power from the South Island hydro-electric system was not expected to be reached yesterday. Monday’s demand was dangerously close to the present maximum output of the station, and appeals for reductions in consumption were broadcast yesterday. The storage fe’l yesterday to 81.930.000 units, after a slight rise after northwest rain during the week-end.
