CEMENT FROM JAPAN

30,000 TONS FOR NEW ZEALAND

FIVE SHIPS CHARTERED (New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, April 10. Thirty thousand tons of Japanese cement carried in five ships will reach New Zealand ports in the near future. This was announced by Captain W. Clough Blair, managing-director of the Tasman Steamship Company, on his return to Auckland from Japan. The Tasman Company, a New Zealand former servicemen’s syndicate, is the New Zealand freight agent for the cement shippers, Douglas M. Kenrick and Associates, of Tokyo. Mr Kenrick is a New Zealander who joined the Allied Powers Headquarters after the war.

Five ships chartered by the New Zealander's company are bringing the cement to the Dominion. They are the Union Trader, which was in Auckland in February, the Union Carrier, the Corda. the Swan, and the Union Mariner. The Corda is expected to go to New Plymouth and the destination of the others will be according to importers’ requirements.
