ABOUT £lB,OOO PAID FOR FARM A little more than £lB,OOO was obtained for a property of 1272 acres at Mirza, near Ward, when it was offered at auction at Blenheim. The property known as “Glenfield,” was sold by Mr J. E. Bell, a returned serviceman of the First World War, who took it over as a Crown leasehold and has since made it a freehold. It now has an excellent record as a fattening area, carrying from 1100 <to 1200 ewes, 600 hoggets, and about 100 head of cattle. At the auction, which was attended by about 300 persons, bidding opened at £lO an acre and went to £l4 ss, when the property was sold to Mr C. P. Acton-Adams, of Blenheim, who is also a returned serviceman. Mr ActonAdams will take over the stock and plant on the property at valuation. In Christchurch yesterday there was brisk bidding for a property comprising 78J acres of heavy dairying and cropping land, situated close to Kaiapoi. Bidding began at £45 an acre. In two or three minutes, the property was sold for £79 an acre. One bid advanced the price by £lO an acre. The property was offered by the trustees of the estate of T. D. Blackmore, and the purchasers were Messrs Winter Brothers. Buildings on the property include a two-storey house, a practically new six-stall cowshed with concrete yard and dairy, and sundry sheds. When 106 acres at Sefton was offered in Christchurch on Wednesday on behalf of Mr W. M. Langdale-Hunt, bidding failed to reach the reserve price.
