NEW ALLIED ATTACK
Drive On East Coast
(Rec. 1230 a.m.) TOKYO, March 5. United Nations forces moved forward again to-day on the Eastern and Central Korean front in a wide outflanking movement through low hills about 30 miles from the East Coast. Lieutenant-General Matthew Ridgway aide-slipped the offensive to the right when Its centre and left ran into stubborn resistance from a Communist screen running north-west of ~ Th<? South Korean* w reported to have advanced within 20 miles of the 28th parallel and American “power groups” within 25 miles in an area near Chongpyong. The new attack came after Allied forces had beaten off a series of localised Communist attacks at both ends of the central front A British patrol entered Asiri, two miles east-south-east of the Important Communist central front stronghold of Yongduri. Two Communist platoons attacked the British as they entered Asiri and the British withdrew to permit artillery fire on enemy positions. united States forces on the Western front reported considerable Communist activity seven miles east of Seoul. Eighth Army headquarters estimated Communist casualties yesterday along the entire Korean front at 2342 killed or wounded and 40 prisoners.
