SUBMARINE SEEN OFF SYDNEY
(Rec. 10 p.m.) CANBERRA, Mar. 5. The Minister of the Navy (Mr J. Francis) has ordered an investigation into a report by two independent witnesses that they sighted a submarine periscope off Bronte Beach, Sydney, yesterday. . He commented; “This is the first occasion on which there has been corroborative evidence of the presence of unidentified submarines in Australian waters. In all probability, however, the vessel seen was one belonging to the Royal Navy on loan to Australia. I propose to ascertain the whereabouts of our submarines at the time."
