CURRENT NOTES

Mr and Mr* Peter Keddell have returned to Christchurch from England and are staying with Mr aunt, Miss D. Moore, Merivale. Mr and Mrs Richard Rocke (Chelsham, Surrey), who have been some weeks in the South Island, left Christchurch yesterday on the first stage of their return journey to England. At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Ladies* Guild of the British Sailors’ Society, held yesterday, the resignation of Mrs xnyr Robinson was received with regret and appreciation of her wholehearted support of the guild was expressed by members. There was a good attendance at the February meeting of the Spreydon Garden Club. Mrs Webb gave a halpful talk on the right use of containers and flower aids. She showed some useful books and gave a demonstration of two different styles of trough arrangements. -Competition winners were as follows:—best bloom: Miss Fehsenfeld 1. Mrs Wilkinson 2, Mrs King and Mrs Wopdcock (equal) 3. Fuchsia: Mrs Hlnchey 1, Mrs Wootton 2, Mrs Woodcock and Mrs Wootton (equal) 3. Basket of flowers: Miss Newman 1. Mrs McKenzie 2, Mrs Hulston and Miss Philpott (equal) 3. Mrs Webb and the tea hostesses were thanked by Mrs McDonald.

At a meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Ladies’ Guild of the British Sailor*’ Society, held yesterday, with the president (Mrs G. W. C. It was decided to begin planning for necessary renovations to be made at the Seamen’s Institute at Lyttelton Miss B. Sanders and Mrs P. B Malingreported on visits they had made during the month to seamen patients at the Cashmere Sanatorium and Christchurch Hospital. At a meeting of the women’s section of the Returned Services’ Association yesterday, the main business was the planning for a garden party to be held in aid of the Disabled Soldiers’ League. An appeal was made for gifts of produce, cakes and fruit and arrangements were made for a baby show and for many interesting and amusing competitions.
