RESTORATION OF BELLS
WORK COMPLETED IN CATHEDRAL The Christchurch Cathedral bells have now been completely overhauled, work on each bell in turn taking nearly a year. Through constant wear the bearings had run oval, making the bells extremely difficult to puli and the mechanics of the peal have how been greatly improved. The mountings were dismantled in turn and all the work done in the tower. The bells were cast by Taylors, of Loughborough, two year* after they had cast the peal of St. Paul’s, London. which were then rated as the finest in the world. Mr J. H. Rhodes sponsored the recent restoration work in memory of his parents, Mr and Mrs G. Hampton Rhodes, who were the first couple to be married in the cathedral The bells were original 1 ? the giftof the Rhodes family.
