NATIONAL* AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS FAST TIMES IN TRIALS Times were fast at the final meeting of the 1 national amateur cycling championships at English Park on Saturday. In the final of the 4000 metres teams cham-' pionship, the Auckland team's winning time of smln 4.2 sec was a New Zealand record. The brilliant young Canterbury rider, L. Lock, was beaten by C. Dickinson (Wanganui) in the final of the 500 metre sprint event, and by G. Avere (Auckland) by a wheel in the 10 mties race. Lock finished second to W. Heseltine (Australia) in the final of the 10 miles Empire Games championship at Auckland in 1949. Lock had a good win in the final of the 4000 metres pursuit event. C. Simpson (Auckland) rode a welljudged race to win the junior championship title over five miles. He stayed about sixth with the other two Auckland riders for the greater part Of the race, made a break on th® field a furlong from the finish, and won by a ,clear length. Points were scored by provincial representatives as follows: Auckland, 33 points, 1; Canterbury, 15 points. 2; West Coast (North Island), 12 points, 3.
