DIVISION IN COMMONS
GOVERNMENT WINS BY SEVEN VOTES (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON. February 20. The Government to-night beat by 302 votes to 295 the fourth Conservative attempt to unseat it in a fortnight when the House of Commons approved a bill authorising the write-off Of £36.000.000 loss on the East African groundnuts scheme and giving the Government authority to continue with a revised £6,000.000 project. The Government won three previous votes on meat, steel, and defence policy. • The Liberals to-night voted against the Government on the Conservative amendment refusing to agree to carry on the scheme without an impartial inquiry.
