Sir R. Heaton Rhodes will celebrate his ninetieth birthday on February 17. Ihresident Truman's envoy, left Whenuapai last night for the United States. He arrived by air at Auckland shortly after midday accompanied by the New Zealand Minister of External Affairs (Mr FW. Doidge). Mr and Mrs Dulles ano Mr and Mrs Doidge were guests rt Government House for lunch. In the afternoon Ml" Dulles called on the Mayor of Auckland (Sir John Allum). Mr F. W. Horner, of Hawera, has been nominated to succeed Mr w. A. Whitlock, of Hastings, as district governor of the 35th Rotary District. —(P.A.) Mr C. G. McKellar will be deputy chairman of the North Canterbury Hospital Board during the absence of the chairman (Mr V. C. Lawn) in Australia next month. Mr McKellar was elected at yesterday’s meeting of the board, securing 10 votes to the five of the other nominee, Miss M. B. Howard, MJ?.

Dr N. F. Bong, of Christchurch, will travel by air to Melbourne in a few days for a three weeks’ post-sraduate course in anaesthetics at Melbourne Hospital.
