OPPOSITION TO RATIONING

FEDERATED FARMERS’ PRESIDENT

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 12. "On the information I have at present Lwould oppose any attempt to reintroduce a system of rationing fertiliser,” said Mr W. N. Perry, of Bruntwood, Dominion president of Federated Farmers of New Zealand in a telephone interview to-day. Mr Perry said he might find good reason at the meeting of interested parties in Wellington next Friday to change his views, however.

Mr Perry said that the rationing system operated during the war, although as efficient as many others that were used, was ftill of anomalies which caused unrest among farmers. It should be avoided if possible. An alternative would be to supplement the available supplies of superphosphate with sufficient serpentine rock, lime, and ground phosphate to meet all demands. Whether this “bulked-up” fertiliser was more efficient in the long run than pure superphosphate was a matter of opinion. There were arguments for each case.
