MURDER CHARGE
MAN REMANDED TO NEXT FRIDAY James Mayo, aged 30. a freering worker, of whites Bridge, appeared!*, fore Mr Rex C. Abernethy, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge that on December 31, 1950 at Christchurch, he murdered Harold Herbert Welis. He was not represented by counsel Detective-Sergeant G. W. Alty naked that the accused be remanded to Jami, ary ISL and the Court granted the application. There were about 12 persons in the public part of the Court. When Mayo's name was called, he entered the dock handcuffed to a police constable. After the charge had been read and Detec-tive-Sergeant Alty’s application heard, the Magistrate said: “The accused is remanded to January 19. Stand down." Mayo was led from the dock, and the proceedings were over in a few minutes. ,
