Preparations For Move To New Camp
(From 2nd Lieutenant KEITH BERRY Public Relations Section, K Force.) IN KOREA, January 9. K Force artillery will be ready for a move this week-end. The regiment’s 25-pounders have been stripped of the protective coverings which guarded them from rust on the voyage from New Zealand, and they are now ready for calibration.
It is expected that the regiment will move to its new camp during the weekend. A range has been selected and the regiment will calibrate its guns and the gunners will carry out further exercises.
Lieutenant-Colonel J. W. Moodie Commanding Officer, 16th New Zealand Field Regiment, told me to-day that all his guns had been checked over painstakingly. “You must be certain that when you need them most they will be in tip-top condition," he added. Except two trucks, which have cracked blocks, all vehicles will be ready for the move north this weekend.
The,New Zealand gunners in addition to their other duties, have had to take their turn at standing guard around the regimental camp perimeter to stop unauthorised personnel, including guerrillas, from entering.
