CITY COUNCIL ELECTION

LABOUR’S MAJORITY MAINTAINED MR WARNER REPLACES MR STURROCK The constitution of the Christchurch City Council—l2 Labour members and seven Citizens—was announced yesterday when the official count of polling on November 18 was completed. Mr W. P. Warner (Labour) replaces Mr J. Sturrock (Labour), who wai the "last of the successful candidates on the night of the election Mr Warner filled seventeenth position, the two last places being occupied by Mr A. R- Guthrey (a sitting Citizens councillor) and Mr N. R. Forbes (Labour), who has resigned from the secretaryship of the Christchurch Tramway Employees' Union.

Two Labour candidates head the list of unsuccessful candidates, which includes Messrs R. G. Brown, P. S. Turnbull, W. J. Cowles, and G. D. Griffiths, Citizens members of the last council. In the final count, Mr G. Manning (Labour) retained his position at the head of the poll, with a big lead over Miss M. B. Howard, M.P. Mrs T. Green, another Labour candidate,, who was in second place on the preliminary count, now occupies fourth position, third place being filled by Mr J. L. Hay (Citizens). Labour holds seven of the first nine positions. In the (Inal figures for the council, silting members are marked with an asterisk. Abbreviations used are:—C..
