A PILOTLESS FIGHTER
MELBOURNE, November 9. A pilotless turbo-jet aircraft for British Commonwealth defence has been designed, developed and tested at the Commonwealth Aircraft Factory, Fisherman’s Bend, Melbourne, and at the South Australian rocket range. Controlled by radio, it is said to have all the characteristics of a firstline fighter. The project, suggested by Britain two years ago, has been a closely guarded secret. So far only one aircraft has been produced, but bigger orders are expected. and there is a possibility of the aircraft being built in Britain under Australian licence. The aircraft was built by Australian engineers under the technical control of an Australian-born designer who studied under Professor Sir Melville Jones at Cambridge.
