INVESTMENT IN AUSTRALIA
HUGE GROWTH IN MANUFACTURING
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) CANBERRA, November 9. The Minister of National Development (Mr R. G. Casey) announced that during the five years alter the war 4900 firms invested more than £210,000,000 in manufacturing industries in Australia.
More than £60,000,000 of this was for the establishment of new ventures. The influx appears to have reached a'peak in 1948-49, when the new firms totalled 946. Last year the number fell to 730.
Mr Casey says that it is clear that a much greater proportion of capital investment is going towards strengthening and improving the many new industries started just after the war.
