AT THE SHOW

VICEREGAL PARTY PRESENT

The Canterbury Centennial Royal Show, now being held at Addington under the auspices of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand and the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, was formally opened yesterday by his Excellency the Gov-ernor-Gerteral. Sir Bernard Freyberg. The weather was perfect and crowds of visitors spent hours watching the competitive events, viewing the animals, examining the many exhibits, greeting their friends, or being entertained in the amusement section. A noticeable feature was the large number of bonnie children of varying ages that were enjoying the outing—much more, probably, than their parents did. Their Excellencies were met on arrival at the Show Grounds by Mr B. E. Keiller (Palmerston North), president of the Council of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand. Mr R. S. Gunn, president of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association. and Mrs Gunn, Mr L. J. Wild, Mr M. E. Lyons, secretary of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and Mrs Lyons. Miss Rosemary Eley, lady-in-waiting, accompanied her Excellency, and Squadron Leader P. Clapham and Flight Lieutenant D. Roberts attended the Gov-ernor-General.

Lady Freyberg wore a grey tailored suit, white blouse, and very smart small white hat with upstanding white wings in front. Miss Eley wore a dark grey coat frock, and close-fitting felt to match; Mrs Gunn wore a mole grey suit, erica pink blouse, brown fur necklet, and mole-grey felt hat with eather mount on one side.
