JUDGE WITHOUT LODGINGS
WARNING FROM BENCH TO HOTELKEEPERS
! SYDNEY, November 8. Mr Justice Dwyer, who is presiding at sittings of the Supreme Court at Bathurst, said in Court, that he had seriously considered sending certain Bathurst hotelkeepers to prison for contempt of Court because they had failed to provide accommodation >ior himself and his staff. J
Some time ago, in accordance with the usual practice, the police were requested to reserve accommodation for him in Bathurst. His Honour said he was informed that the police had endeavoured to arrange this, but all the Bathurst publicans to whom they spoke said that they were either unable or unwilling to grant reservations. "In future, certainly such misconduct will receive sharp and salutary punishment.” added his Honour, who has secured lodging in Orange. “The increasingly evident stages of public house dilapidation and decrepitude in Bathurst and the failure to provide accommodation for Judges on circuit might yet compel me to make a recommendation that no future sittings of the Supreme Court be held in Bathurst and that cases, both criminal and civil, be transferred to Orange."
