MAGISTRATE ASKED TO SETTLE CLAIMS

Mr John J. Treweek, the carpentJC» is one claimant, and the family of we late Mr Charles Williams, licensee o* the hotel in 1915, are also claimants. When he found the gold Mr Treweek took it to the police. . . Mr Williams used to go goldmining down the Howard river, an uppe* tributary of the Buller river, ana ne also bougrit gold from other minersIt was a common practice for nW* to keep gold in the hotel, and there was evidence from a former employee in the hotel that Mr Williams toW them he had buried gold in the bacKyard. After he died a search made, but the gold was not f°' j no-. The Magistrate proposed that jne gold should be divided eaiflllly b®* tween Mr Treweek and the f®®w but on trie request of Mr T. rewce h? counsel he reserved his decision unw next week.
