INDUSTRIAL PROFITS IN BRITAIN
STEADY RISES RECORDED (N .Z.P. A.—Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, November 6. Industrial profits in the United Kingdom have been steadily rising for several months, and the balance-sheets of 2256 industrial and mining companies show a profit jump of 8 per cent, over the previous trading year, states the "Financial Times” in an analysis of published business accounts. The figures disclose that total gross profits reached £1,141,000,000, compared with £1,047,000,000 last year. Dividends have been raised by an average of about 3 per cent. Commenting on the figures, the financial editor of the "Manchester Guardian” states that the general business situation is one of moderately-rising profits—the figure of 8 per cent, is about the same as the estimated rise in industrial productivity—which suggests that managements and shareholders are giving precisely "fair shares” to labour, to the Exchequer, and to the consumer.
